Silicone Pad Insulation

Service Division: Marine Insulation | Specialty Fabrication
Team Involved: Norfolk

Our team fabricated and installed custom removable insulation pads designed for high-temperature marine exhaust systems. Each pad was constructed using silicone-coated fiberglass cloth with a high-temperature fiberglass mat core, then secured in place with stainless steel wire and lacing hooks. This system improves both efficiency and safety by maintaining temperatures and preventing heat loss. C.E. Thurston ensured precise fitment and full coverage, which are essential for long-term performance and reliability.

The use of silicone-coated materials provided a non-porous, weather-resistant barrier, ideal for areas where moisture, salt air, and oil exposure are common – such as vessel engine rooms. The pads were designed for easy removal and reinstallation, allowing for quick access during inspections and maintenance.

The project was completed on time and in full compliance with customer specifications. The final installation delivered a clean, uniform appearance and improved thermal performance.

Exhaust pipes were bare before we started. This is a picture of the final product. Both exhaust pipes coming off the engine have been fully insulated. Even in a tight space, we were able to get the job done.
