Founded in 1919 by C.E. Thurston, Sr., our company began as a small distributor of mechanical packing materials. Within a few years, insulation, marine, and cold storage contracting were added, laying the foundation for the diversified business we operate today.
After decades of steady growth, C.E. Thurston sold its distribution division in 2002 to focus exclusively on contracting. In 2010, new leadership revitalized the company, modernized operations, and expanded our capabilities.
Listening to customer demand, we reintroduced our distribution division in 2012, followed by the 2014 acquisition of Empire Machinery & Supply — a well-established industrial distributor founded in 1914. Today, both our contracting and distribution services operate under one name: C.E. Thurston & Sons, Inc. This return to our original structure reflects our continued commitment to providing comprehensive solutions for industrial, marine, and commercial customers across Virginia and beyond.
